SEIU Illinois State Council congratulates Congresswoman-Elect Marie Newman on her Election Victory
SEIU members look forward to working with Marie Newman to create good union jobs and win a $15 minimum wage for working families
CHICAGO - The following is a statement from SEIU CPS custodian Maxine Gladney regarding Marie Newman’s victory over Republican Mike Fricilone in Illinois’ 3rd congressional district. SEIU members have supported Newman from the beginning and were instrumental in helping her win the Democratic nomination:
“Marie Newman took on a political dynasty and won by highlighting progressive values, like protections for immigrant families and a $15 minimum wage. SEIU members have stood with her from the very beginning.
“It’s clear voters are looking for bold new progressive leadership. There is no place in the Democratic Party for anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice politicians.
“Marie Newman’s victory shows that the progressives can run on their values and win. SEIU members look forward to working with Marie Newman in Congress to raise wages for working families and make it easier for all working people to come together and form unions.”
