With Tishaura Jones, STL Is On a New Path

 Yesterday was a historic day.

Yesterday Tishaura Jones, the first Black woman mayor of St. Louis, officially took office. Local 1 members came together to support her and put our city on a bold new path, one where all working people - Black, white or brown - can support themselves with $15 and good union jobs.

Local 1 members came out to vote, phone banked, and volunteered for Tishaura Jones St. Louis Lambert International Airport janitor Keyahanna Jackson even penned this op-ed for the St. Louis American about what Local 1 members are looking for our new mayor to do.

But, the work doesn’t stop here; we need to make sure our new mayor is held to her campaign promises. Local 1 members need Mayor Jones to invest in essential workers and our communities using relief funding from the American Rescue Plan, close the workhouse and reimagine public safety, and protect our airport from wealthy special interests. Tishaura Jones has said that she will fight for $15 and good union jobs, and it’s Local 1 members who will hold her to it. The front-line essential workers who elected Tishaura Jones are ready to hold her accountable and make sure that she follows through on her commitments to create a St. Louis that works for all us, no matter where we come from or the color of our skin.

In Solidarity,
