Invoking Your Weingarten Rights
Weingarten Rights are based on a 1975 U.S. Supreme Court decision (NLRB v J. Weingarten Inc) which held that Union employees have a right to representation during investigatory interviews. If you’re being asked questions by a GardaWorld manager that could lead to discipline, you have a legal right to inform your supervisor that you want a Union representative present. If you are denied Union representation by a GardaWorld manager, politely state that you choose not to engage in further conversation without a Union representative present. If your request continues to be ignored, begin taking notes to document the exact nature of the conversation, including relevant names, dates and times. Stand firm and if necessary, reiterate to the GardaWorld manager that you have a legal right to Union representation during any conversations which may lead to discipline and immediately contact SEIU Organizing Coordinator, Carl Walter (510) 350-6411 at the conclusion of the meeting.

OUR PURPOSE:
SEIU Local 1 will fight to raise economic standards and improve working conditions for hard working Security Officers at Lambert International Airport. GardaWorld is a Union contractor in over a dozen major cities across the U.S., including nearby cities like Chicago and Detroit, where employees are guaranteed annual raises, affordable healthcare benefits, access to paid time off, pension, job protections and more.
RECENTLY:
January 2025 - Local 1 worked with St. Louis elected officials to close a loophole in the Living Wage Ordinance (LWO) which allowed airport contractors to pay workers substantially less than $22 per hour.
February 2025 - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen (BOA) followed by unanimously passing Resolution 223 in support of GardaWorld Security Officers at Lambert Airport forming a Union.
March 2025 - GardaWorld formally agreed to remain neutral and provide a pathway for Security Officers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport to join SEIU Local 1.
July 2025 - SEIU Local 1's majority status among 150 contracted security officers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport was certified. This is a groundbreaking moment for SEIU as this represents our very first organized unit of security officers in the State of Missouri. St. Louis is GardaWorld's North American headquarters and they dominate the market like no other in the United States.
