Ward 03 Alderman, & Resolution 223 Cosponsor
“As Chairman of the Transportation and Commerce Committee, I also serve on the Airport Commission. GardaWorld Officers with SEIU contracts in nearby cities have guaranteed benefits like the right to use paid sick leave for 1-2 days and return to work without a doctor’s note. Now’s the time for security officers at St. Louis Airport to come together and demand the respect you deserve.”

SEIU Local 1 Member Leader & ABM Janitor at Lambert Airport in St. Louis, MO.
“SEIU Local 1 enforces laws like the CROWN Act, that protect airport workers, so our managers don’t threaten to discipline us for wearing natural hairstyles. I want to see Security Officers treated with the same respect that my coworkers and I receive at work.”
OUR PURPOSE:
SEIU Local 1 will fight to raise economic standards and improve working conditions for hard working Security Officers at Lambert International Airport. GardaWorld is a Union contractor in over a dozen major cities across the U.S., including nearby cities like Chicago and Detroit, where employees are guaranteed annual raises, affordable healthcare benefits, access to paid time off, pension, job protections and more.
RECENTLY:
January 2025 - Local 1 worked with St. Louis elected officials to close a loophole in the Living Wage Ordinance (LWO) which allowed airport contractors to pay workers substantially less than $22 per hour.
February 2025 - The St. Louis Board of Aldermen (BOA) followed by unanimously passing Resolution 223 in support of GardaWorld Security Officers at Lambert Airport forming a Union.
March 2025 - GardaWorld formally agreed to remain neutral and provide a pathway for Security Officers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport to join SEIU Local 1.
WHO WE ARE:
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is one of the largest and fastest growing Unions with more than 2.1 million members, including 70,000 Security Officers across the United States.
SEIU Local 1 is a property services union representing more than 50,000 Security Officers, Janitors, Airport Workers, Factory Workers and more across 10 cities throughout the midwest There are approximately 5,000 members of Local 1 across Missouri with the majority residing in the St. Louis metropolitan area, including approximately 200 Janitors currently working at Lambert Airport.
OUR MISSION:
GardaWorld/Gateway/A1 and all of GardaWorld’s subcontractors at Lambert Airport are included in our effort to organize a Union for Security Officers. Once a majority of officers at the airport authorize SEIU Local 1 to become their bargaining agent, Security Officers can begin negotiating a collective bargaining agreement with GardaWorld that will establish new standards for security professionals at the airport.
YOUR RIGHTS:
Security Officers can sign and circulate Union authorization cards at the airport, before and after work, or during designated break times. GardaWorld and SEIU Local 1 have formally agreed to a pathway for employees to organize a Union at Lambert Airport and join SEIU Local 1. Security Officers at Lambert Airport have a right to organize with their coworkers without any interference from management, threats of discipline, or fear of retaliation for engaging in Union activity during non-work time.
