ILLINOIS – Following Tuesday’s midterm elections, SEIU Local 1 celebrates major victories for working families across Illinois, Missouri, Michigan and Ohio, as union members helped elect pro-worker champions committed to strengthening workers' rights, protecting good union jobs and building an economy that works for everyone. Representing nearly 50,000 janitors, security officers, airport workers, residential workers and other essential workers across the Midwest, SEIU Local 1 mobilized members to knock on doors, reach voters and make their voices heard at the ballot box. SEIU Local 1 President Genie Kastrup releases the following statement:

“This morning, there is a renewed sense of hope and momentum for working families across the Midwest. At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, the leaders we elect matter. They make decisions that impact our wages, our jobs, our right to organize, and our ability to build a better future for our families. Local 1 members know that political power is built through organizing, and tonight, their hard work has paid off. These victories are a powerful reminder of what working people can accomplish when we stand together and make our voices heard.
