Local 1 Celebrates Veteran’s Day

On Veterans Day, we celebrate hundreds of thousands of veterans who proudly supported our country in its time of need.

Today, Local 1 lifts up veterans like George White, a janitor in Toledo Ohio, Local 1 Executive Board member and veteran of the Vietnam War -- a former aircraft mechanic in the Air Force -- George now works as a janitor at an oil refinery in Toledo, ensuring that his coworkers and those around him are safe and clean during this pandemic.

George notes his four years of military service taught him a lot about being active in his union. “The experience serving in the Air Force taught me the importance of being a team player, and strengthen our unity as union members.” George says. Many veterans returned home to find work in the service sector, working as janitors, security officers or residential workers. George and hundreds of others - regardless of their background or the color of their skin - will continue to be the heroes our communities need.

Happy Veteran’s Day!
