Q&A with Secretary-Treasurer Chris Andersen

Chris AndersenJustice for All

Q: What happened at the 2008 SEIU International Convention?A: The Convention passed a program called “Justice for All” that recognizes that until we win justice for all working people, union members will struggle to improve—or even maintain—our pay and benefits. The key points of the program are:

Political Accountability:  We have an opportunity to elect politicians who will bring the change working families need in our country.  The convention committed to not only electing those politicians, but holding them accountable to ensure they fulfill their promises to working people.

Member Resource Centers:  Local 1 was the first to create a Member Resource Center that uses 21st century technology to provide trained and immediate assistance to members in their own language.  Following our lead, the convention voted to expand Member Resource Centers so that more than one million members have access to this system by 2012.

Uniting with More Workers in Our Industries: The convention approved a national plan to unite more than 500,000 new members in our union by 2012 so that we can ensure that we have the strength to continue winning high standards of pay and benefits for our members and all working people.
