CPS Janitors Win Sick Days
Chicago teachers, parents, and workers united and won sick days for janitors in the Chicago Public School system. Ron Huberman, CEO of Chicago Public Schools, promised that the upcoming school year’s contract would include two sick days for all janitors to guarantee the health of students and workers.
“It wasn’t right that we worked so hard and we didn’t have sick days,” Mae McLeninen, janitor at Curie High School, said. “We’re very happy and proud that we won.”
After a long struggle, this important victory will provide the sick days that janitors need, a better work environment and healthier schools.
“All of the work we did with the help of parents, teachers and principals finally gave us what we’ve been fighting for.”
Ed Washington, janitor at Elihu Yale Elementary School, said.
