Food service workers win new agreement with good raises, better benefits
HOMEWOOD – By an overwhelming margin, nearly 25 SEIU Local 1 food service workers ratified a strong new contract that guarantees the good raises and better benefits they need to support their families.
“We work hard feeding thousands of children at Homewood-Flossmoor High School every day, but we were struggling to put food on the table for our own families,” said SEIU Local 1 food service worker Grace Hill. “Because we fought for our students, our families and our community, we won a better future.”
“Local 1 food service workers came together and showed they are essential in keeping Homewood-Flossmoor High School running each and every day,” said SEIU Local 1 Vice President LaToyia Comb. “This strong new agreement will help lift up the entire Homewood-Flossmoor community.”
The new three-year union contract guarantees:
- Annual wage increases for food service workers, which will help Homewood-Flossmoor food service workers support their families and keep up with the cost of living
- Protecting healthcare while costs across the country rise
- Better benefits including reimbursement for uniform costs and an additional holiday
