SEIU Illinois State Council Endorses Jessica Washington Gutierrez in Chicago’s 30th Ward

Progressive labor union represents more than 150,000 janitors, security officers, health care and home care workers, public employees and more throughout Illinois

CHICAGO – Today, the SEIU Illinois State Council announced its endorsement of lifelong progressive community activist Jessica Washington Gutierrez for the 30th Ward in Chicago’s February 2019 aldermanic election. Gutierrez is running to unseat longtime incumbent Ariel Reboyras.

“While Chicago working families are struggling to make ends meet, Gutierrez will be an independent voice in Chicago’s City Council that will fight for a $15 minimum wage and union rights for working families across the 30th Ward,” said SEIU Illinois State Council President Tom Balanoff.  “Unlike Alderman Reboyras who was directly aligned with the mayor, Gutierrez will be a progressive voice that will be aligned with working families in the 30th ward and fight for higher wages, advocate for immigrant families, and expand access to affordable health care.”

The SEIU Illinois State Council represents more than 1,000 working families in the 30th Ward.
