Congress: Pass the DREAM Act for Working Families!

Instead of doing their jobs, Republican politicians in Congress passed a huge tax cut for billionaires and attacked our health care. Their misplaced priorities are hurting working people across the country and threatening to tear millions of immigrant families apart. Congress must stop playing games and pass a DREAM Act without funding Trump’s racist and divisive border wall.

Local 1 janitor Vanessa: Let Dreamers stay ‘in the only country we’ve ever known’

Last year, the Trump administration announced it would not renew Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) threatening to tear more than 800,000 families apart. He also rescinded Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 200,000 Salvadorans, 4,500 Haitians, and 2,500 Nicaraguans, many of whom have lived here for decades.

We need to pass the DREAM Act and protect TPS

Republican politicians must stop playing political games with working families and find a solution that reflects the values of our country. 79 percent of Americans support legal protections for immigrant youth. 122 DACA recipients lose their status every day; Congress must pass the DREAM Act to protect immigrant families. If they don’t, our communities are ready to hold them accountable at the ballot box in November.

Local 1 janitor and TPS recipient Humberto Torres: “If I had a chance to talk to Mr. Trump, I’d say, ‘Please be more human… have a conscience.’”

Local 1 members are telling Republican politicians: Stop the political games and do your job! On January 17, Local 1 and allies held a march and rally in Chicago to defend immigrant rights. We’ll continue to come together to fight for immigrant justice, and we won’t stop until Congress passes the DREAM Act and protects TPS to keep families together.
